Horizon Marine, Inc. is the pioneer in operational oceanography. They consistently provide timely oceanographic services supporting the needs of the ocean industry.
In the early 1980's, Horizon supported the offshore oil and gas industry in the frontier areas studies. We measured and characterized Gulf Stream warm core rings to support deepwater drilling. We developed equipment and a technique to observe ocean currents directly underneath and in the wake of hurricanes. We designed small, lightweight, air-deployable drifting buoys, enabling the Eddy Watch service. We deploy scores of these GPS buoys in significant ocean currents every month.
Horizon uses state-of-the-art techniques in the analysis of oceanographic data in mapping, modeling, and forecasting significant events. Our system of daily observations, including several remote sensing techniques, enables real-time data analysis, reporting, and forecasting the migration and strength of ocean currents. Utilizing Horizon's services, the offshore industry is able to plan safe and efficient operations and minimize costly downtime caused by severe currents.
